At ABC'nD, our therapies are primarily center-based. A structured, controlled, environment allows us to develop a seamless flow of individualized interventions tailored to the particular needs of the child. With the close interactions of behavior, speech, and occupational therapists, the work of each of them can be reinforced continually throughout the day by the other therapists. In addition, since one of the most profound deficits in many children with autism lies in their capacity to partake in social interactions, at the center we are better able to address this and related issues by teaching how to engage each other and peers.

Clothing Exchange
Families are encouraged to utilize their resources by exchanging gently used clothing with each other. During the winter season the center collects coats and jackets and redistributes the gifted clothing to families who are in need of these items.

Community Speakers
Staff and the Family Connection Group coordinate community speakers to present at the center. These presentations help to inform families about our community, opportunities, and services. Speakers are occasionally invited to present.

Community Resource Program
Our Community Resource Program was developed with the intention to inform parents of valuable resources within the community. It is our hope that this program will help link families to other agencies, supporting ABC'nD's use of a holistic approach in providing services to families.

Family Event Nights
Staff and the Family Connection Group coordinate Family Nights. The purpose of Family Nights is to provide a safe environment for children to be included in traditional celebrations, such as Trick-or-Treating and visiting Santa. These events allow families to network, strengthening our community.

Family Connection Group
The Family Connection Group focuses on building family and community relationships. This group meets to help with the planning of large social events, such as our yearly Halloween Party and Santa's visit. Input from the group helps to build and maintain relationships within our community.

Giving Christmas Tree Program
It is our wish that each family has a wonderful holiday season filled with joy. Having good food and fun presents, of course, can help this. All of our families are invited to take part in this tradition to help supply anything that their family may need or want to celebrate this season. There are no qualifications and no questions asked if you would like to enter your family for this program.

News Letter
Our News Letter was developed by parent members of the Family Connection Group. The purpose of the newsletter is to give our parents a voice to share updates about center-based family events, GFCF recipes, community resources accessible to this population, and children-friendly events happening around town, It spotlights a therapist to help families better know our staff, and give a therapy tip-of-the-month to be used at home.

Parent Autism Training
Parent trainings have been designed by our team of therapists to educate families about methods for working with children with autism. These meetings occur several times a year.

Our parent presentations are a great opportunity for parents to visit with their children's therapists, as well as other parents. These meetings are intended to provide parents with information regarding programs (i.e. TEACCH, ABA, etc.) and intervention strategies (i.e. PECS, sensory diets, behavior plans, etc.), autism resources, and community services. We strongly recommend that all parents attend the presentations that are pertinent to their child. There is no charge for the presentations. We at ABC'nD believe that learning to implement in your home and out in the community what we do at the center is essential for every child.

Parent Mentoring
A family that is new to the center, or transitioning from one group to another, will be assigned a liaison from ABC'nD. The liaison will contact the family to help with any questions and welcome them to the program. Once the connection is made, it is up to the parents to maintain this relationship. We are confident that this program will enhance the communication between families and help to create a welcoming atmosphere for newcomers.
